Roots of Thought

graphite & charcoal on paper, 21x29cm, 2026

The drawing explores the contrast between control and natural growth, as well as personal development. The figure holds a pot shaped like a head in their hands, an artificial vessel symbolizing order, limitation, and conscious structure. At the same time, soil flows out of the person’s own head, turning the human mind itself into a natural source of life and growth.

The plants growing from the head illustrate that thoughts, emotions, and experiences cannot be fully controlled, but instead develop organically. However, we still have the ability to make choices at many points along the way. Through the contrast between the solid pot and the freely flowing soil, the drawing highlights the difference between attempting to guide growth and the natural unfolding of one’s inner self.

At the same time, the artwork conveys the idea that every person already carries within themselves all the necessary conditions to develop strong thoughts and creative ideas. Just as soil contains the essential nutrients needed for plants to grow, the human mind also holds the potential to create something new, to evolve, and to grow internally.

At the same time, it is up to us how we use these thoughts and ideas — whether we “plant” them and allow them the space to grow, or leave them neglected. An idea, just like a plant, must be cared for, nourished, and protected so that it can flourish and eventually bear fruit.
